Job description

A leading technology company that constantly improves its suite of data-driven reports, dashboards, and integrations is looking for a Data Engineer. The ideal candidate is expected to be passionate about data and eager to dive in and start writing queries and building reports to help decision-makers. The company works collaboratively on several different projects, involving everyone from the front-line employees to the leadership. The engineer will work with stakeholders to gather requirements, develop new queries and reports, and help to support the existing infrastructure. This role offers an excellent opportunity for selected candidates to showcase their skills in multitasking, time management, and prioritization in the face of evolving requirements and new demands for business intelligence.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Write and develop advanced SQL queries to pull and analyze data for all departments across the company
  • Create and maintain reports in Looker and resolve issues in existing reports
  • Sync data across platforms using various tools
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define data and reporting requirements 
  • Aid in sustaining and enhancing the data and reporting infrastructure
  • Collaborate with the internal engineering and system operations teams 
  • Efficiently deliver business value based on data
  • Design and develop database structure recommendations and data extract requirements
  • Recommend and implement enhancements and modifications to optimize the BI team's processes and procedures
  • Be responsible for the growth and development of junior BI Engineers in data reporting and analytical skills
  • Interpret data schemas to translate into insightful KPIs, dashboards, and reports
  • Write and optimize efficient queries
  • Assist with the design and creation of reports and dashboards

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, a quantitative discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 3+ years of relevant data engineering experience  
  • Eager and able to dive right in and contribute from the onset
  • Be confident in telling a story using data and visualization
  • Competency in working independently as well as with a team
  • Strong project management, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Sound business understanding and capacity to promote cross-departmental partnerships
  • In-depth curiosity for tinkering with data and data products
  • A quick learner capable of applying new technologies to business problems
  • Advanced SQL development skills, preferably with SQL Server and Snowflake
  • 2+ years of experience with Looker
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a data warehouse environment such as Snowflake
  • Proficiency in data integration and ETL tools such as Fivetran, Matillion, and SSIS
  • Experience with DBT, R, Python, or other analytics languages
  • High-level proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Expert statistical knowledge and core mathematical ability
  • Good understanding of relational and dimensional modeling, data warehousing concepts, and methodologies
  • In-depth skills in business intelligence and data warehousing design principles and industry best practices 
  • Demonstrable skills working with multi-dimensional modelling (star schemas, snowflakes, de-normalized models, and handling slowly changing dimensions)
