Job description

A non-profit engineering consultancy active in the Ed-tech space and committed to helping people further advance their skill sets and keep up with technology is looking for a Software Solutions Engineer. The engineer will be making significant contributions to the company’s core product in collaboration with other engineers (code reviews, problem-solving, etc). The company has been setting industry-wide standards by developing a variety of programs to help promote collaborative learning and educational engineering thereby teaching clients the core concepts they need to understand technology. The role requires some overlap with the Central-Eastern time zone.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Communicate directly with product owners on weekly calls with written updates as needed according to release cycles (usually ~4-8 weeks)
  • Ensure timely delivery of release packages with source code and agile workflow reports that outline the work that was shipped in alignment with client expectations 
  • Collaborate with other SSEs to regularly evaluate the software solutions being offered to anticipate new problems that may affect client satisfaction
  • Consult with potential clients on the feasibility of new projects
  • Collaborate with other SSEs to create scoping documentation for engineering work

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 3+ years of relevant experience as a software engineer
  • Proficient in either JavaScript (React+Redux, Node) or Python (Django)
  • Fundamental understanding of software principles (when and why does programming language matter)
  • Experience with frontend styling in Material UI is nice to have
  • Skilled with DevOps with AWS, Docker, GitHub Actions is preferred
  • Familiarity with Webpack or other environment tooling is nice to have
  • Nice to have some fluency in Spanish
  • Experience in unit testing with Jest or similar is preferable 
  • Ability to navigate a codebase written in any language and document its characteristics
  • Willingness to engage in thoughtful code review
  • Very strong English language skills in both writing and speaking
  • Ability to lead problem-solving discussions with both product owners and developers
