Job description

A U.S.-based non-profit organization that works to aid social change by empowering individuals to attain the help they need to thrive, is looking for a Staff Software Engineer. The engineer will be responsible for contributing to and leading the execution of long-term SEO strategies and driving platform growth. The organization is focused on civic action and has over 100mn monthly users who can rally support or contribute to and launch campaigns in order to aid their cause. This is one of the world's largest nonprofit-owned tech platforms that has managed to raise over $68mn during its Series D round of funding. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work cross-functionally with multiple teams to drive growth 
  • Analyze, build, and lead the platform’s long-term SEO strategy to boost organic search and inbound traffic 
  • Drive social impact at a scale and help people around the globe
  • Establish and ensure a highly productive dev cycle
  • Ensure that SEO strategies are being tested, scoped, and implemented rapidly
  • Put SEO monitoring systems in place to ensure best practices, and educate staff 
  • Analyze SEO learnings to scale programs and ensure global impact 
  • Take ownership of QA and tech deployment process to ensure SEO factors do not degrade over time
  • Utilize data to prioritize projects and make critical decisions
  • Scope out projects and deconstruct them into a well-defined action plan with timelines
  • Own timely execution of projects and follow-through on deadline 
  • Collaborate with the internal team to influence architectural decisions
  • Familiarize yourself with the platform’s architecture and communicate it clearly to others

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 5-8+ years of relevant experience as a Software Engineer
  • Hands-on experience (at least 5-8 years) with front-end 
  • 3-5 years of experience with back-end technologies such as NodeJS, Elixir, Ruby, GraphQL, and AWS
  • Background with front-end technologies like React, JavaScript, TypeScript, and SQL (at least 3 years)
  • Expertise and 2 years minimum experience with modern SEO
  • Understanding of basic SEO factors, strategies, and how they relate to the platform’s stacks
  • Passionate about improving page speed, performance, and core web vital metrics
  • Ability to work full-stack features and various techs like Ruby on Rails
  • Deep system understanding and familiarity with instrumentation and experimentation
  • Ability to drive system quality and run maintenance checks
  • Previous experience with a slew of web analytics measurement methodologies and measurement platforms like Google Analytics, Search Console, and SEO tools
  • Ability to communicate effectively, share ideas, analysis, and information in a direct verbal/written manner
  • Understanding of remote operations and ability to connect with international colleagues in different time zones
  • Ability to help other engineers with design, coding, and pull-requests
  • Excellent English communication skills
