Job description

A US-based company that is enabling Finance teams to spend intelligently by leveraging the power of their smart platform, is looking for a Software Developer. The selected candidate will be responsible for actively writing code and reviewing pull requests from other members of the team. The company’s advanced technology is surfacing relevant expenditure insights and driving spending responsibility by accessing the valuable data provided in vendor invoices/receipts. The company has managed to raise $13mn+ during their Seed round of funding. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Own the build and maintenance of the company’s data and ML pipelines
  • Work with the team to perform invoice digitization to transform invoice PDFs into rich and clean data asset
  • Perform inference through existing NLP and computer vision models
  • To automatically retrain and deploy updated models, use human-in-the-loop annotations
  • Over time, monitor and maintain the models in production
  • Refactor data scientists' code before releasing it into production
  • Craft and deliver new pipelines to enrich invoice data from the company’s machine learning models
  • Make models available as APIs
  • Work closely with the data scientists to productionize the data science and machine learning code that is developed
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to make sure the data and ML engineering pipelines are performant in production
  • Deliver the MVP within the first three months of hire
  • Work with the executive team, and act as a thought leader across the company
  • Define, articulate, and execute the data and ML engineering strategy from launch to scale, and implement engineering best practices
  • Champion agile, design philosophy, CI/CD, test-driven development, thoughtful architecture, communication, and measurability
  • Ship highly scalable distributed systems on cloud platforms (AWS/GCP) and database technologies (SQL/NoSQL/column-oriented distributed databases)
  • Develop big data systems (Spark/Airflow) and microservice architectures
  • Collect, store, process, and analyze structured and unstructured data and implement ETL processes
  • Standardize, enhance, implement, and monitor data repositories
  • Create workflows to ingest, enrich, and make data available across the company’s platform
  • Define data retention policies and automate data delivery
  • Manage a budget before and observe first-hand challenges in managing vendor spend
  • Perform tight integrations into other fintech platforms (e.g., payment platforms)
  • Build highly scalable data and ML pipelines 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 3+ years of relevant experience as a software developer
  • Strong ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and translate them into short/long-term business decisions
  • Solid expertise in setting technical vision, architecting, building, and maintaining performant systems, from launch to scale
  • Demonstrable experience working extensively with Python
  • Proficiency in any static type language is a plus
  • Passionate about building data and ML engineering teams and rapidly developing data and ML pipelines at various stages 
  • Excellent at communicating complex concepts, including the ability to distill intricate workflows into clear processes and decisions with measurable company-wide impact
  • Fluent in verbal and written English
