Job description

A US-based company helping people cover expenses health insurance don't usually cover is looking for a Cloud Platform Engineer. The selected candidate will help build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems in the Cloud. The NYSE-listed company is offering individuals and companies supplemental disability insurance. This position requires 8+ hours of overlap with the EST time zone. 

  

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain documentation for all aspects of the Cloud platform implementation
  • Ensure that cloud environments remain compliant with current standards and collaborate with consuming teams to update as needed
  • Create automation for the standardization of Cloud environments and architectural design patterns for project teams to use
  • Create and maintain runbooks/playbooks for cloud environment operational support
  • Participates in troubleshooting sessions, which include collaborating with business teams, analyzing logs and data, and submitting service requests to CSPs
  • Collaborate with Vendors, Partners, and CSP Support and drive problem resolution
  • Examine architectural designs for applications to ensure that dependable and performant design patterns are used
  • Assess the production readiness of new cloud-native services and defines operational characteristics and maintainability in relation to industry/CSP best practices
  • Define and monitor operational metrics for the dimensions of production performance, reliability, scalability, and availability
  • Contribute to the team's continuous improvement by conducting research, writing knowledge articles, and taking part in discussion groups
  • Improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of cloud environments
  • Continuous learning and knowledge sharing with team members and project teams

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 3+ years of relevant experience as a software engineer
  • Must have experience in Cloud Architecture experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Expertise in Python, PowerShell, Ruby, Java, and JavaScript is required
  • Configuration Management software experience like in Chef, Ansible, Puppet, and SaltStack is required
  • Must have expertise in Terraform, CloudFormation, and CDK
  • Familiarity with running and scaling distributed software systems (load balancing, high availability, systems monitoring, etc.) is nice to have
  • Knowledge of structured text (JSON, YAML, XML) is a plus
  • Willingness to be a part of a culture of continuous improvement
  • Experience with Linux, Unix, and Windows operating systems internals and administration is required
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to quickly changing priorities
  • Understanding application production support is nice to have
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Passion for automating routine tasks
  • Solid understanding of networking and network-related structures
  • Ability and willingness to work off-hours on occasion will be appreciated
