Job description

A non-profit company building free technology tools to accelerate creating a more humane and rehabilitative justice system is looking for a Backend Engineer. The candidate will utilize strong software engineering expertise to develop, monitor and push new features for the platform. The company is backed by industry leaders and prominent companies such as Schmidt Futures, Mozilla Foundation, Google etc. The role is well-suited for those who would like to contribute to developing innovative and world-changing solutions. It requires a time overlap with EST.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop APIs and microservices to support delightful frontend experiences
  • Contribute to developing the monitoring system end-to-end and ensuring robust monitoring, alerting, and tools for development/debugging
  • Own the process from the git workflow, the code review process, build system, configuration system, artifact management and CI/CD system while working hand in hand with engineers across the company
  • Manage the deployment in a way that allows reliability to push new versions of the product easily 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 5 years of experience as a backend engineer 
  • 3+ years of experience writing production-grade code in a modern programming language
  • Sound expertise in containerization and microservices architecture
  • Proficiency with Node.js and cloud providers
  • Strong focus on delivering value as fast as possible to core users
  • Pragmatic in knowing when to refactor and ship
  • Ability to prioritize in a chaotic and ambiguous environment
  • Capable of working at a fast pace and communicating efficiently on product transitions
  • Experience with Kubernetes in production
  • Experience working on large scale group video calling platforms like Zoom or Google Meet
  • Experience working with WebRTC, either directly or with libraries
