Job description

A high-growth subscription-based platform that makes it easy for people to search, find, and communicate is looking for a Senior Back-end Engineer. The engineer will be responsible for breaking down complex problems, and designing elegant, easy-to-maintain solutions. The core of the company includes an API that searches and organizes millions of federal, state, and county records in real-time to determine the location of inmates across all prison facilities. This is a great opportunity for those who would like to contribute to building solutions that increase work efficiency. It requires 4 hours of time overlap with PST.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Own product features end to end 
  • Architect the application features
  • Break down complex problems into simpler tasks
  • Design elegant, easy-to-maintain solutions that are resilient and robust
  • Work in an existing codebase and suggest  necessary changes to existing code while managing risk
  • Gather requirements from business managers, gain insight into business processes, and communicate ideas clearly to team members in order to support multi-person projects. 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience working as a back-end engineer and creating web applications using an MVC framework
  • Proficient with multiple dynamically-typed languages, preferably including Python, JavaScript, and Ruby
  • Experience with back-end MVC framework, preferably Flask, or Django
  • Experience working with relational databases, SQL, NoSQL databases (MongoDB)
  • Familiarity with RESTful API design and test driven development
  • Experience with source control, preferably Git
  • Experience with Docker
  • Experience working with the following Python libraries: Celery, SQLAlchemy, Marshmallow, Pillow, and Flask would be a plus
  • Experience in writing unit tests for pytest
  • Experience with regular expressions, Linux command line is an added advantage
  • Experience with server admin/configuration especially Nginx, GCP, and microservices architecture
