Job description

One of the first-ever faculty information systems serving the global higher education market is looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer. The engineer will develop both the front-end and back-end technologies and be responsible for building and supporting great SaaS products for higher education. The company has worked with over 400 institutions, research funders, and academic organizations based in 15 countries, including Johns Hopkins, Brown, Dartmouth, University of Virginia, Stanford, and millions of individual scholars for more than two decades. They have raised close to $15 mn in funding. Job Responsibilities:

  • Deliver fully tested and high performing code
  • Work with both front-end and back-end technologies to bridge gaps and participate in entire feature sets
  • Design and maintain complex, scalable enterprise-level applications
  • Discover new technologies and apply knowledge to deliver efficient solutions 
  • Work with the large existing codebase to identify opportunities for refactoring or migration to external services 
  • Improve scalability, service reliability, capacity, and performance 
  • Propose, conceptualize, design, implement, and develop solutions for difficult and complex applications
  • Utilize third-party APIs to build integrations with other systems
  • Improve the physical structure of existing systems to optimize performance and provide self-service tooling
  • Participate in code review and mentoring of other team members
  • Provide robust automated unit tests and contribute ideas to boost team growth
  • Collaborate with a team of remote employees in the planning and execution of well-defined sprints
  • Participate in agile processes and contribute to the roadmap

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in software development with Ruby on Rails 
  • Strong experience working with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL, Postgres, or MS-SQL
  • Sound knowledge of iterative and incremental methods, TDD and/or BDD
  • Experience working with gems such as PRY, CANCANCAN, and Rubocop
  • Production-ready experience and familiarity with AWS or other cloud hosting technologies
  • Experience working with industry design patterns
  • Experience with a front-end framework such as Angular, React, etc
  • Proficient with Git and GitHub for version control
  • Experience publishing and consuming APIs
  • Experience working in an SOA Environment
  • Fluency in English
  • Ability to break complex problems into simple, elegant solutions
  • Strong interest in higher education, startups, and/or SaaS technology
