Job description

A growing technology company offering free, non-partisan, world-class tools specifically designed for policy professionals is looking for a Senior Rails Engineer. The engineer will be responsible for building and maintaining the Ruby on Rails frameworks and components and performing transformational work that’ll impact policy professionals. The US-based startup is led by industry professionals with over a decade worth of experience in entrepreneurial marketing, advocacy, and government service. Candidates who would like to work with a tight-knit team of engineers to help push the application forward are well-suited for this role. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement software features, suggest improvements, and fix problems
  • Thoroughly understand the stack, the product, and the user's needs
  • Conduct automated testing, and work through edge cases 
  • Give constructive feedback during code review, and thoughtfully receive feedback
  • Maintain and improve the existing Rails application, and build new Rails microservices and smaller apps to deliver new applications
  • Be passionate about new challenges and always eager to learn

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 4+ years of relevant experience as a Ruby on Rails developer 
  • Solid understanding of OOP, design patterns, relational databases, and API design
  • Demonstrable experience with at least one OO language
  • Proven experience in at least one scripting language
  • Strong knowledge of testing principles
  • Prior experience with Git, continuous integration, and regular deployments
  • Nice to have experience using Elasticsearch
  • Experience using data structures and their various tradeoffs is nice to have 
  • Nice to have a minimum of 6+ years of experience shipping real-world products in a similar role
  • Startup experience is highly preferred but not required
  • Nice to have experience in Python, RDBMS, JavaScript, Typescript, React, PostgreSQL
  • Experience in Git, AWS and Heroku is preferred
  • Problem Solving and critical thinking ability
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
