Job description

A US-based startup increasing the ability of public defenders to analyze crucial data on evidence management software is looking for a Full-Stack Engineer. The engineer will be responsible for implementing the user-facing features that will increase the usability and helpfulness of the platform to public defenders. The company partners with agencies and works with indigent defense attorneys. It has received support from 500 startups and other industry-leading institutions to scale the mission. As an early engineer in the team, the candidate will help shape the engineering process to maintain engineering excellence and speed better. This role offers the possibility of a long-term, full-time position

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop tested UI features connecting data from the back-end REST API endpoints
  • Implement UI/UX changes from UI mocks
  • Actively participate in specialized sessions with public defenders to find out what’s working and what isn’t on the platform
  • Engage directly with key stakeholders in the criminal justice system and translate feedback into defining a product roadmap
  • Help push high quality, valuable features out the door
  • Contribute to the back-end migration to better support the machine learning capabilities of the platform
  • Improve the overall user experience of the editor
  • Understand the overall platform architecture and how it informs the front-end
  • Reduce technical debt through good code hygiene and utilize best coding practices

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 3+ years of relevant experience as a full-stack engineer
  • Self-motivated and eager to be a thought partner in the development of the product roadmap
  • Comfortable writing testable front-end code and associated Unit tests, along with knowledge of design patterns
  • Experience working with the tech stack, specifically React, Node, and JavaScript, or Typescript
  • Familiarity with broader web concepts (i.e., CORS, REST requests, web security)
  • Kind, compassionate, and care about social impact
  • Some Python and machine learning experience in natural language processing (NLP) is desirable
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Service and working in the AWS console is nice to have
