Job description

A rapidly-growing company that helps insurance brokers to enhance their financial performance and get a grasp over the placement of risk is looking for a Data/Cloud Engineer. The selected candidate will be responsible for leveraging agile software development approaches to continuously improve back-end systems. The company's platform uses machine learning to provide users with information on significant claims, trends, underwriting profit pools, and carrier performance. The company has managed to raise close to $35 mn in funding.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate directly with the data scientists to assist in the development of complicated algorithms that bring unique insights into the data
  • Use agile software development methodologies to enhance the back-end systems repeatedly
  • Model front-end and back-end data sources to provide a more complete view of user flows throughout the system and to allow advanced data analysis
  • Create data pipelines to clean, process, and aggregate data from many sources

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 3+ years of relevant experience as a data engineer
  • 3+ years of experience developing data platform infrastructure 
  • Knowledge of programming languages like Scala or Python/PySpark
  • Background working with distributed big data technologies such as Spark and Redshift
  • Experience with schema design, dimensional data modeling, and large-scale data warehousing architecture
  • Expertise in building data pipelines through efficient ETL design, implementation, and maintenance
  • Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers for best practices in the data engineering space
  • Knowledge of agile software development and continuous integration/deployment principles
  • Familiarity with SQL is a plus
  • Proficiency in English
