How to become a GCP developer in 2023?
Developers can build and deploy scalable apps from the ground up using Google Cloud Platform and make them globally available in practically any language.
GCP is a collection of cloud computing services based on the Google App Engine framework for hosting web applications from Google's data centers. It has evolved into one of the leading cloud computing platforms on the market since its inception in 2008, albeit it is still behind Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure in terms of market share. Google continues to compete in the cloud wars and invests in GCP to make it more competitive with other public cloud providers and appeal to large clients.
Since the launch of Google App Engine, the business has developed several related technologies, including its data storage layer and the Google Compute Engine and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) component that facilitates the usage of virtual machines. Following its success as an IaaS provider, Google expanded its offerings to include a load balancer, DNS, monitoring tools, and data analysis services. Thus, allowing it to compete more effectively in the cloud market.
What is the scope of a GCP developer?
Google Cloud Platform is a public cloud computing service offering a variety of hosted computing, storage, and application development capabilities. GCP services are available to software developers, cloud administrators, and business IT experts over the public internet or a dedicated network connection. GCP platform provides over 90 information technology services/products that assist enterprises, IT professionals, and developers in maximizing productivity, increasing flexibility, and gaining a strategic edge. Businesses must recruit top GCP developers to realize the benefits of the service for computing, storage, networking, big data, ML, and IoT, as well as cloud management, security, and developer tools.
GCP also provides application development and integration services, such as Google Cloud Pub/Sub management and real-time communications.
Furthermore, Google Cloud Endpoints (GCE) enables developers to create RESTful API-based services and make them available to Apple iOS, Android, and JavaScript clients. Anycast DNS servers, direct network hookups, load balancing, monitoring, and logging capabilities are all available through the platform. As a result, organizations must employ the finest remote GCP developers to reap the benefits of GCP services.
What are the roles and responsibilities of a GCP developer?
While a GCP developer's roles vary depending on the project, they are also responsible for a variety of other tasks, such as designing solution architecture on GCP, representing products in client meetings, working on GCP architecture according to the company's needs and requirements, and so on. They'll also need to employ Google Cloud SQL (GCS) to manage user and customer data.
If you are looking for remote GCP developer jobs, mentioned below are a few of the responsibilities of a GCP developer:
- Expertise in at least one high-level programming language
- Developing, deploying & debugging cloud applications
- Skilled in API usage, command-line interface, and SDKs for writing applications
- Knowledge of key features of Cloud Service Providers
- Understanding of application lifecycle management
- Use continuous integration and distribution pipelines to deploy applications
- Code to implement essential security measures
- Writing, correcting and debugging code modules
- Code writing skills for serverless applications
- Understanding the use of containers in development processes
How to become a GCP developer?
Individuals have the opportunity to become specialists thanks to Google's Cloud Professional certification. Furthermore, when it comes to securing high-paying positions, credentials like Google Professional Cloud Developer Certification are mandatory. The Professional Cloud Developer exam, above all, assists you in developing apps with supporting services. To put it another way, you'll be utilizing Google Cloud Professional Services to provide best practices for completing application-related activities.
The purpose of the Google Professional Cloud Developer Certification test is to assess your technical abilities. Google also offers hands-on preparation for the test. Google provides access to hands-on labs that are part of the GCP free tier. On the Cloud Development page, you may also find a Google professional Cloud Developer test hands-on lab.
The Google Professional Cloud Developer test will help you get more advanced skills and knowledge as a professional and improve your GCP developer resume.
Furthermore, this test will allow you to demonstrate your application development and design abilities, and expertise. Above all, passing this test will help you land remote GCP developer jobs.

Skills required to become a GCP developer
1. Cloud Engineering:
You can't get started with Cloud Computing without first learning how different Cloud Service Providers operate. Cloud service providers like GCP provide end-to-end services such as compute, storage, databases, machine learning, and migration, so they can handle practically anything linked to cloud computing, making it a crucial cloud engineer talent. In the large data and software development areas, GCP has a stranglehold.
2. Designing Cloud-native applications
To guarantee that your applications are performant and safe, you'll need a strong theoretical basis in application design concepts. You must also be aware of the full range of GCP services available so that you may make the best data and storage architecture decisions
3. Cloud Networking
Since centralized computer resources are shared for clients through the Cloud, networking is linked to cloud computing. It's sparked a trend of moving more network management operations to the cloud, reducing the need for consumer devices to operate the network.
More networking administration operations may now be pushed to the cloud thanks to improved Internet connectivity and stable WAN bandwidth. Customers are looking for easier methods to establish and access networks utilizing a cloud-based service, which has fueled demand for cloud networking.
Remote GCP developers may also be in charge of developing automated adjustment mechanisms to ensure that the network responds to user needs. As a result, knowing networking basics and virtual networks are critical Cloud engineer abilities because they are important to cloud networking.
4. Linux
Open source, simple customization, security, and other advantages make Linux a programmers' delight. Because cloud providers are aware of this, we see Linux being used on a variety of cloud platforms. GCP developers need to have skills like architecting, planning, constructing, managing, and maintaining Linux servers in a cloud environment. This single cloud Engineer competence might be enough for you to live and succeed in the Cloud domain.
5. Virtualization
By running numerous "virtual computers" side by side on the same hardware, imitating various components of their IT systems, virtualization software has enabled many users to decrease their hardware assets or utilize them more efficiently.
Virtualization is critical in enabling organizations to access scalable, fault-tolerant resources. Working knowledge of virtualization or services such as virtual machines, EC2, and Lambda would be a significant step toward Serverless Computing. As a result, it's a top-tier cloud engineer expertise.
6. Containers
Containers provide a logical packaging technique for applications, allowing them to be separated from the environment in which they function. Regardless of whether the target environment is a private data center, public cloud, or even a developer's laptop, this decoupling allows container-based apps to be deployed quickly and reliably. As a result, knowing how popular containers such as Kubernetes and Docker function can offer your CV a boost in the Cloud domain.
7. Programming skills
When it comes to cloud engineering abilities, you can't overlook the role of developers in the computer world. Developers can swiftly create, deploy, and manage apps. This property is used in cloud computing for scalability and strength. As a result, understanding the right programming languages or frameworks might be beneficial. Some of the top GCP developers are very good at .NET, SQL, Python, and Java.
