How to become an AWS Lambda developer ?

AWS Lambda is a serverless computing service provided by Amazon as a part of Amazon Web Services. It was first introduced in November 2014. AWS Lambda is a service that helps in building and running applications and services without having to manage the underlying server infrastructure i.e a serverless computer service. It automatically runs code in response to events (any update or modifications in the state) like a user placing an order on your e-commerce website. Moreover, these services can be used as an extension to other AWS services.

It is one of the leading serverless functions providers across the globe. Its features help you create your own backend services that are scalable and secure. Whether it’s the deployment of a security patch or automatic scaling or maintenance of the operating system, all you need to do is supply the code and you’re done.

What is the scope of AWS Lambda development?

Lambda has many striking features that help a developer build applications that are secure and scalable. Some of these features are mentioned below:

Code signing: Lamba has code signing features that let you verify the unaltered code approved by developers that are published in your Lambda functions.

**Lambda extensions: **Lambda supports both- internal and external extensions. It also lets you use Lambda extensions to augment your Lambda functions. It allows you to integrate lambda with your favourite tools that can be used for different purposes.

**Database access: **It manages a myriad of database connections from a function that helps the function to access high concurrency levels without depleting them.

What are the roles and responsibilities of an AWS Lambda developer?

An AWS Lambda developer is someone who develops applications using Elastic Beanstalk and runs your code automatically in response to events. If you’re looking for a high-paying AWS Lambda developer job, you must be aware of all the roles and responsibilities of an AWS Lambda developer. The responsibilities are as follows:

  • Hands-on experience in developing AWS databases
  • Proficiency in application development using Amazon Lambda
  • Knowledge and experience in development with AWS Simple Queue, AWS simple, workflow, etc.,.
  • Decent understanding of cloud reference architectures.
  • A good grasp of documenting debug code modules on AWS
  • Knows all the latest latest open source technologies & tools

Skills required to become an AWS Lambda developer

There are certain skills that should be on the list of every AWS Lambda developer. They are as follows:

1. Deployment

The most fundamental and required skill that is a must-have in any AWS developer is Deploying web apps to AWS. There are multiple ways to do that, and we see more and more coming up and replacing the old ones. Therefore, it is important to double-check whether any new methods are offered or not.

2. Security

AWS works both ways (good and bad) at times. It lets you do so much but doesn’t hold your hand and take you through it. Therefore you must be well-versed with WS Security Model and IAM. The most common mistake often made by developers is the misunderstanding of IAM.

Another difficult one is secret management. It is a new service that was launched by AWS last year. It breaks down the complexities by managing and retrieving sensitive information like passwords, API jets etc.) in your web applications.

3. Databases

Databases are a crucial part of any online application. AWS provides plenty of options to cater to your needs. The problem lies in identifying the database service that is best suited for your application. If you are not fully aware of the pros and cons, you might select the wrong one and hamper the development of your application.

4. Debugging

As a developer, you know how frustrating it can get when you hit a roadblock. But you also know how easy it gets when you have some experience dealing with them. AWS lambda is no exception to that. With every error you overcome, the whole process of debugging and fixing becomes easy.
There is no fixed ground plan as such. You can simply get some experience and reach there. There is no shortcut as such, you will face a blocker and reach a solution by yourself.
