Job description

A US-based open-source, distributed platform for collaborating and evaluating information, is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer. The engineer will be joining the product delivery team and leading the overall code and infrastructure development. The startup works with educators, schools and publishers to bring new, innovative capabilities and workflows over digital content. The company has managed to raise $1.9mn in funding so far and is ramping up to respond to high demand from stakeholders across the education marketplace. This role requires some overlap with the UTC time zone.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Director of Engineering
  • Lead development, documentation, and maintenance of next-generation service delivery platform
  • Work with a strong understanding of deployment and automation of the delivery of containerized workloads
  • Assist in upskilling the existing SRE team to ensure the stability, reliability, and future growth 
  • Undertake documentation tasks of environments and tooling to streamline knowledge development of the entire team
  • Identify and work on resolving complex development and related issues
  • Communicate on a regular basis with different teams

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of relevant experience working as site reliability engineer or equivalent roles
  • Previous experience in building scalable enterprise-grade solutions
  • Expert in working with development and site reliability teams
  • Should possess knowledge of containerization & next-generation cloud computing services
  • Passionate about resolving complex problems 
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS, Linux, Terraform, containerization, etc.
  • Ability to operate using the CLI and proficient at Python, Java or Ruby
  • Should possess strong verbal and written capabilities
  • Inclination towards automated solutions but can also understand when not to deploy such services
  • Experienced in CI/CD systems with the ability to build and improve new features
  • Strong knowledge of modern security protocols and concern about protecting user data
  • Must have experience with remote work and be a self-motivated worker with good time management skills 
  • Open to taking part in on-call rotation
