Job description

A US-based company that has developed a software to manage evidence better and help public defenders improve their capacity to examine vital data, is looking for a Software Engineer. The engineer will be in charge of building user-facing features on the platform that will improve its usability for public defenders. The company is building the software while working closely with defense attorneys and customizing the product in line with the needs and challenges of unique users. The company has managed to raise more than $100K during their pre-seed round of funding. This is a unique opportunity for developers to work in a niche industry while contributing to a worthy cause.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Help improve the overall user experience of the platform’s editor
  • Migrate the back-end to better support the machine learning capabilities of the platform
  • Help host regular feedback sessions with public defenders and find out areas of improvement on the platform
  • Engage directly with key stakeholders in the criminal justice system 
  • Translate feedback into defining a product roadmap
  • Design and develop tested UI features that tie in data from back-end REST API endpoints
  • Implement UI/UX changes from UI mocks
  • Understand the overall platform architecture and how that informs the front-end
  • Reduce the technical debt through good code hygiene and utilize best coding practices
  • Shape the engineering process to better maintain engineering excellence

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 3+ years of relevant experience as a software engineer
  • Experience working with React, Node, and JavaScript or Typescript
  • Familiarity with broader web concepts like CORS, REST requests, and web security
  • Comfortable writing testable front-end code and associated Unit tests
  • Extensive knowledge of design patterns and when to best use them
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Service and working in the AWS console is nice to have
  • Nice to have some Python and machine learning experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP)
