Senior Data Engineer

A rapidly-growing US-based startup that uses next-gen technology to analyze and combine behavioral economics to provide customers with personalized insurance services is looking for a Senior Data Engineer. The developer will be joining the company’s core team while working with the founder and CIO that oversees tech, R&D, data acquisition, and product vision. The VC-backed, personality-focused data enrichment platform utilizes the latest in AI to provide new predictive power to MGAs and carriers. This is a full-time, long-term role and a unique opportunity for developers to make their mark on the platform and company.

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform automation, design, and architect highly scalable and reliable data pipelines 
• Analyze large volumes of data from different sources to support the fast-changing needs of the company
• Efficiently collaborate with cross-functional teams in engineering, data science, product, management, and advisors
• Guide the team on system architecture, code structure and quality, technical debt, and testing
• Work closely with the data science team and demonstrate a strong aptitude to translate business and technical requirements into a scalable working solution 
• Continuously meet the demands of the company and clients while staying on track with deadlines
• Build tools that provide visualizations for teams and extract insights from big-data platforms

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
• At least 4+ years of relevant experience as a software engineer
• 2+ years experience in a data-engineering role for commercial products
• Familiarity with big-data or machine learning technologies, preferably Spark
• Strong knowledge of Python (pandas) 
• Experience with Scala is nice to have
• Strong experience with SQL development and working with NoSQL
• Comfortable developing and debugging in Linux/Unix environment
• Proven track record of building/deploying services and data pipelines in AWS
• Familiarity working with containers (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Profound skills in implementing operational best practices such as monitoring, alerting, and metadata management is desirable
• Working knowledge of machine learning and statistics is nice to have
• Nice to have some experience in a technical or team leadership role, or a desire to grow into one with a pattern of achievement and growth
• Fluent in written and verbal English
