Job description

A US-based company that provides educators with instructional materials that fulfill modern digital and print requirements, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer. The engineer will be in charge of building and implementing functional software solutions by designing and making effective software and tools. The company is on a mission to empower more educators, engage more students, and connect more families through their learning platform. The company has successfully raised $30mn+ during their Series C round of funding. 


Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop software and tools to produce and implement functional software solutions
  • Develop robust, scalable software that is aligned with user needs and the company’s goals
  • Improve the delivery solutions to meet business objectives
  • Develop tools and applications by producing robust, scalable, and testable code
  • Automate tasks through proper deployment of tools and scripting
  • Conduct code reviews and debug codes 
  • Write unit, functional, and integration tests regularly 
  • Collaborate with engineering, QA, product, UX, and other internal teams to fix and improve product features 
  • Ensure that the system’s software is up-to-date with the latest technologies
  • Break down large projects into smaller, easier chunks to ship features effectively 
  • Brainstorm new approaches and ways of thinking and opportunities that contribute to the company’s goals 
  • Ability to work autonomously to deliver projects 
  • Help recruit new engineers to the team 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 4+ years of relevant experience as a software engineer 
  • Demonstrable experience signing, programming, securing, testing, reviewing, releasing, and maintaining software solutions
  • A minimum of 4+ years of web application engineering experience with Ruby on Rails, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and RESTful APIs
  • At least 1+ years of proficiency in modern JavaScript frameworks like React, Vue.js, and Angular
  • 1+ years of experience improving the performance of Ruby on Rails applications with Memcached and background job processing frameworks (Sidekiq, Resque, etc.) is required
  • Prior experience with 3rd party integrations
  • Analytical and problem-solving aptitude
