How to become a PHP/Laravel developer ?
PHP is a server-side programming language that has been popular with developers since its introduction in the mid-1990s. As a PHP/Laravel developer, you must first have a basic understanding of PHP. This means a good command of the PHP language and operations. Still, once you've done that, you can add value by gaining experience with various PHP applications and frameworks (such as Laravel, Zend, and Symfony).
It is also important to stay up-to-date with the latest updates and features. Even seasoned PHP/Laravel developers may need to become more familiar with the latest technology. Smaller companies and organizations tend to look for well-trained developers because they don’t have the resources to hire people for every specialized job. So while you may want to be an expert in certain advanced PHP tasks, staying in the game as a generalist is always a good idea.
From afar, the work of PHP/Laravel developers can seem difficult, even incomprehensible. But thanks to the easy adaptability of PHP and its framework, which makes it easy to learn, even with little to no industry experience. All it takes is ambition, hard work, prior knowledge, and adaptability.

What are the roles and responsibilities of PHP/Laravel developers?
PHP/Laravel developers are highly trained professionals who develop programs, applications, and websites using the dynamic scripting language. Depending on the job function, they can be classified as web or software developers. Since the language is popular and widely coded, it can be an excellent option for freelance or contract-based developers. As it has been a go-to language for startups and small businesses, it also has a strong programming community to back it up.

- Build, test, and deploy innovative web applications efficiently while collaborating with other developers to meet specific business needs.
- Test the website or application on various devices and browsers and correct any problems.
- Troubleshoot any CSS, HTML, and script compatibility issues across platforms and browsers.
- Examine and investigate various architectural considerations related to the system design process, including site performance, database design, and web usability.
- Study and evaluate the various alternatives that can be implemented as features in new applications.
- Develop plans to keep the website up-to-date at all times, including recommending improvements that can improve performance. They are also responsible for creating and adjusting guidelines for web content and choosing the most effective design tools and other necessary programming languages for applications.
- Communicate with other departments, other teams, and company management to solve problems that arise in setting priorities, choosing the best solutions, and developing strategies for creating new content.
- Provide detailed descriptions of website elements such as features, communication protocols, programming languages, functionalities, and deadlines.

Skills required to become a PHP/Laravel developer
The first step is to learn the important skills to get a stable PHP/Laravel developer job with a high salary. Let’s take a look at what you need to know!
1. HTML
Hypertext markup language is at the core of every website. With a thorough understanding, developers can distinguish between elements such as a website's title, body text, and subtitles.
2. CSS
Cascading style sheets are primarily used to determine how website HTML elements should be displayed on the front of the page. While HTML provides the tools to structure the content, CSS makes it beautiful and shapes the content.
3. JavaScript
The logic-based programming language takes websites to an even higher level. One of its main functions is to change the content of the website. Think of all the call actions or confirmation boxes you see on websites daily; developers created them using Javascript.
4. Design patterns
Design patterns are useful in all software development, including PHP. They can accelerate development by providing repeatable solutions to common problems. They also help improve the readability of the code, as other developers can see the patterns used. Some of the most common design patterns are Factory, Strategy, and Singleton, but there are many others that you can become familiar with.
5. Composer
Composer is a dependency manager that takes care of your libraries, classes, and functions so you can easily install different versions per project. The writer also checks for new versions of these libraries (or "packages") and updates them if necessary.
6. PSR
The PHP Standard Recommendation (PSR) is a PHP specification developed to standardize PHP programming concepts and improve the interoperability of PHP components and frameworks. It is published by the PHP Framework Interoperability Group (PHP-FIG), and there are currently 13 accepted standards, each with its own purpose, with more being written. PHP developers must learn and follow these standards to avoid unnecessary variations in PHP code.
7. PHPUnit
PHPUnit is a popular unit testing framework for the automated testing of small code units based on expected results. Unit tests are good practice for any PHP developer and can be used in a test-based development (TDD) approach, where tests are set up even before code is written.
8. Testing/Debugging
As testing and debugging are good qualities for any developer, they’re valuable skills to bag remote PHP/Laravel developer jobs. Unit testing is the process of testing individual blocks of source code, and unit testing frameworks provide specific methods and structures for doing so. Debugging refers to considering all those discrepancies (bugs), putting on your detective hat to figure out why and how they’re happening, and finally addressing them accordingly.
