Job description

An NYSE-listed company providing customers with supplementary insurance policies is looking for a Cloud Platform Engineer. The selected candidate will be creating and maintaining documentation for all aspects of the Cloud platform implementation. In the event of serious illnesses or accidents, the company provides users with an additional layer of financial security. This role requires 8+ hours of overlap with the EST time zone. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that Cloud environments remain compliant with current standards and work with consuming teams to update as necessary 
  • Develop automation for the standardization of the Cloud environments and architectural design patterns for consumption by project teams 
  • Create and maintain runbooks/playbooks for operational support of the Cloud environments
  • Review architectural designs for applications to ensure that reliable and performant design patterns are implemented 
  • Evaluate the Production readiness of new Cloud-native services and define operational characteristics and maintainability in relation to Production performance, reliability, scalability, and availability dimensions operational measures are defined and tracked
  • Participate in discussion groups, write knowledge pieces, and do research to help the team continuously grow
  • Constantly strive to make the cloud environments more cost-effective and high-quality
  • Learn new things and impart your knowledge to the management and project teams consistently
  • Carry out more tasks as needed

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 3+ years of relevant experience as a software engineer
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud architecture using AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Prior knowledge in scripting and programming
  • Working knowledge of Java, Ruby, PowerShell, Python, and JavaScript
  • Prior knowledge with the configuration management tools Chef, Ansible, Puppet, and SaltStack
  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK)
  • Knowledge of how to operate and scale distributed software systems (load balancing, high availability, systems monitoring, etc.)
  • Familiarity with XML, JSON, and other types of structured text
  • Proven background in application production support
  • Powerful analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Must possess an obsession with automating mundane chores
  • Solid knowledge of networks and the structures that relate to networks
  • Experience working in a continual improvement environment
  • Knowledge of the internal workings and administration of the Linux, Unix, and Windows operating systems
  • Ability to multitask and rapidly adjust to changing priorities
  • Excellent English communication skills
