Job description

A US-based company that is building a cloud-based life science research and development platform to help corporate research departments become more productive, is looking for a Back-End Engineer. The developer will be responsible for solving problems, troubleshooting, and investigating back-end issues. The company's innovative platform is built on composable architectures to enable new workflows and develop integrated digital workspaces that are easily modified to meet the researcher's scientific expertise. The company has managed to raise more than $14mn in funding so far. This will be a full-time position that can lead to career-defining opportunities.

Job Responsibilities:

Develop JSON APIs with OpenAPI specs in collaboration with various tech specialists, scientists, and product owners
Collaborate with other application engineers to understand the product and business needs
Offer your expertise around the platform and AWS cloud service development
Act on systems utilizing distributed, on-demand processing for terabytes of data
Write code tests and fix all security issues discovered during daily scans
Contribute to the whiteboard design sessions and code reviews
Use a holistic approach to improve the cost and performance of back-end applications

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
At least 3+ years of experience working as a back-end engineer
Solid expertise working with at least two back-end programming languages
Solid grasp of at least one of: Java or Python
Knowledge of React, Angular, or Vue.js to consume JSON APIs
Experienced in developing JSON APIs and familiarity with OpenAPI spec
Good understanding of both SQL and NoSQL databases
Be comfortable with Git version control
Proficient with AWS, containers, and serverless functions
Excellent understanding of issues and ways to deal with data consistency
Competency with fault-tolerant distributed-processing issues and strategies
In-depth knowledge of authentication and authorization concerns
Ability to read and refactor other people's code
Track record of working in a development team
Capacity to work actively with a Product Owner, UX designer, Requirements Analyst, etc.
Sound communication (written and verbal), time management, interpersonal and teamwork skills
