Job description

A fast-growing technology company delivering tools that help students build skills across multiple areas like communication, decision making, empathy, etc., is looking for a Back-End Engineer. The engineer will quickly get up to speed with the working mechanism of the development environment and help scale the back-end development infrastructure. The company is dedicated to providing features for the online learning platform used by tens of thousands of teachers worldwide, enabling an entire generation of learners to solve problems and build exceptional life skills. This will be a full-time, long-term opportunity requiring at least 6 hours of overlap with EST.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Dive into the database and system architecture and write engineering specifications for current and upcoming projects
  • Make suggestions for improvements and review existing integrations 
  • Work with both other developers to independently develop features from scratch
  • Become an indispensable member of the growing engineering team
  • Work alongside the Systems Architect to ideate strategy for major feature releases
  • Develop services that can be used by more students globally and have a positive impact on their lives
  • Contribute to building cutting-edge educational tools 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 3+ years of relevant experience as a back-end engineer
  • Experience with Node.js and object-oriented JavaScript
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools like Git
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs and Integration Tests
  • Demonstrable skills with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
  • Nice to have experience with TDD and AWS (S3, API Gateway, Cloudfront)
  • Understanding of distributed architecture and No-SQL data structures with PostgreSQL
