Job description

A US-based company that connects executives with part-time assistants and delegation tools to ease up their work, is looking for a Senior Back-End Engineer. The selected candidate will be responsible for creating internal tools to aid the company's customer service and operations teams. The company believes that when employers delegate the work and outsource it to the right people, they will be able to focus on other important tasks. The company has managed to successfully raise close to $15 mn in funding.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Have firm ownership and impact on the company’s back-end services
  • Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, and members of the customer success and operations teams to ensure the delivery of usable, desirable, and useful product experiences and tools
  • Help in integrating the company’s services with third-party client-facing APIs and products, like Slack, Zapier, and various other productivity tools as they emerge in the future
  • Familiarize with the company’s products, understand how they operate from the perspective of the end-user and get up to speed with the organization’s web codebases and back-end
  • Solve some of the start bugs and work on shipping improvements to the company’s existing stack
  • Work on setting up simple automation to better the company’s internal processes
  • Partner with the web and product teams to work on a medium-scope feature, develop it end-to-end, and then ship it to the end-users
  • Develop internal tools to assist the company’s customer service and ops teams
  • Consistently engage with the company’s assistants to assist them with any bug or issue, and maintain involvement in the user research efforts to build empathy with the company’s users
  • Maintain participation in brainstorming sessions to provide input on the features you are responsible for and on the overall product roadmap
  • Lead a large-scale project implementation that has an impact on a vast surface area of the company’s product; this can be the double service integration with third-party APIs
  • Possess a proper intuition of which projects are challenging and which ones can be delivered easily, given the company’s tech stack
  • Work on solving pain points in the development experience
  • Modernize the company’s back-end to facilitate new competencies in the client applications
  • Handle complex bugs by adding more instruments and writing simple bots and scripts that integrate with the team's tools to ensure everyone is in the loop
  • Work on solving performance problems on both client and back-end side
  • Respond to production incidents and extract learnings from them to ensure they aren’t repeated
  • Fill gaps left behind by the product team when encountering an edge case and be comfortable with asking for a second opinion
  • Rewrite from scratch or delete the feature you had launched, and be comfortable with that
  • Participate in recruiting and onboarding new team members
  • Contribute to establishing the company’s engineering culture
  • Interact with all functions of the company, including Customer Success, Operations, and Marketing, to ensure the right product is being built
  • Maybe also work on merging a few PRs to the company’s iOS codebase

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 5+ years of relevant experience as a software engineer
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • At least 5+ years of experience in programming efficiently, including 3+ years in Node.js, React, GraphQL, and TypeScript
  • Prolific knowledge of relational databases
  • Familiarity with or desire to learn React Hooks, Apollo, Redis, various productivity APIs (Zapier, Slack, etc.), and Chrome Extensions
  • A firm believer in software development best practices (peer reviews, automation, etc.)
  • Passionate about solving various software engineering problems, developing well-designed products, and increasing people’s productivity
  • Comfortable with sharing feedback about the product the company is building, even if you aren’t an expert
  • Must be a self-starter that knows how to handle ambiguity
  • Comfortable with taking the initiative to increase the team’s efficiency by implementing process and tooling improvements,
  • Take ownership of opportunities entailed with working in an early-stage organization
  • Open to going out of the comfort zone and contributing to part of the company’s stack that is comparatively new to you, when it offers the most impact on the team
  • Ability to communicate seamlessly with a diverse team and make teammates more energetic
