Senior Back-end Engineer

A well-established Insurtech company that is using the power of IA to revolutionize insurance distribution is looking for a Senior Back-end Engineer. The selected candidate will be in charge of developing and managing tasks completely into production, while troubleshooting and enhancing system performance. The company is on a mission to transform the insurance industry and leverage technology in order to reduce administrative burdens, manual processes, and human biases. This is a full-time position that requires 6+ hours of overlap with the London time zone (GMT+1).

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop, deploy, and maintain software applications using Python and related technologies, particularly AWS
• Develop solutions for new product requirements, considering the current architecture and established practices 
• Communicate ideas, designs and architecture through brainstorming with other team members and stakeholders to encourage innovative solutions
• Troubleshoot, debug, and enhance system performance and reliability
• Optimize system and application performance
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful integration of new developments
• Keep up with the latest technologies and trends in Python development, Cloud technologies, and DevOps

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
• At least 5+ years of relevant experience as a Python developer (back-end heavy)
• 3+ years of experience working with AWS
• Solid understanding of Agile methodologies
• Excellent knowledge of cloud technologies, particularly AWS
• In-depth knowledge of the most commonly used AWS services, including Athena, DynamoDB, API gateway, Route 53 and Amplify
• Prolific experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as CloudFormation and Terraform 
• Proficiency in SQL and deep understanding of database structures for troubleshooting and optimization
• Experience with NoSQL databases is a plus
• Strong skills in developing APIs and familiarity with tools like API Gateway, Cognito, etc. 
• Experience with performance monitoring tools like CloudWatch, Sentry, etc. 
• Familiarity with Continuous Integration tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc. 
• Understanding of network topologies and security
• Ability to mentor and support junior engineers
• Nice to have a background in financial services, particularly in insurance
• Effective problem-solving skills and good english communication, both written and spoken
