How to become a Cloud Architect?
A cloud architect is an IT professional responsible for all technical elements of cloud computing, including design, planning, and management. Cloud computing solutions have become popular as businesses worldwide move away from onsite data centers and server rooms.
Companies need highly qualified cloud architects to manage their cloud usage, which includes app building, resource allocation and maintenance, and successful use of the industry's leading cloud services, like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
What is the scope for Cloud Architects?
With many firms moving business processes to the cloud, onsite and remote cloud architect jobs have recently been named one of the most in-demand IT careers. As companies transition from on-premise infrastructure models towards a cloud-first approach when updating or establishing new environments, the demand for experts to fill remote cloud architect positions has increased significantly.
What are the roles and responsibilities of a Cloud Architect?
Cloud architects design and maintain the cloud computing infrastructure that all businesses need to be flexible and responsive. They have the knowledge and skills to design cloud solutions that meet and exceed the company's needs.
Cloud architects also have a variety of other responsibilities. These include:
- Develop a well-informed cloud strategy and closely monitor the shift.
- Review cloud apps, hardware, and software regularly.
- Create and maintain cloud-based applications.
- Monitor the company's cloud privacy in partnership with IT security.
- Respond to technical difficulties in a timely and knowledgeable manner.
- Assist with infrastructure migration techniques, such as transferring large applications to the cloud.
- Determine the appropriate cloud architecture options to assist the company in achieving its strategic objectives.
- Consider a project's resource utilization and scalability requirements while translating project-specific criteria into a cloud structure that meets those requirements.
- Keeping track of cloud activities, building, and migrating apps to the cloud. Cloud architects also offer guidance on dealing with high-risk scenarios. It's a senior-level profession that requires a special blend of technical, business, and interpersonal skills.
How to become a Cloud Architect?
Onsite and remote cloud architect jobs often require the following academic and professional qualifications and experience.
Education: An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline with similar skills is required. Some employers prefer candidates with a Master of Science degree.
Certifications: Additional technical qualifications are often preferred. For example, AWS Certification, Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification, etc.
Experience: Cloud architects with at least five years of experience in cloud services, including open-source technologies, software development, system architecture, scripting languages, and working with cloud providers, are in high demand. Experience developing or designing cloud-based internet services is also required.
Both onsite and remote cloud architect jobs require experience with programming languages such as Java, Python, and Ruby. Familiarity with OpenStack, Linux, AWS, Rackspace, Google Compute Engine, Microsoft Azure, and Docker is also preferred. APIs, orchestration, automation, DevOps, and databases, particularly NoSQL databases, are important competencies.

Skills required to become a Cloud Architect
The first step is to start learning the essential abilities that will help you acquire a high-paying Cloud architect job. Let's take a look at what you need to know.
1. Linux
Linux is a programmer's dream because of its open-source nature, ease of customization, security, and other exciting features. It is widely used on several cloud platforms because cloud providers know this.
Cloud architects need to be well-versed in the Linux operating system. Knowledge of Linux server architecture, maintenance, and management is important.
2. Programming
Cloud architects should be able to work with SQL, Java, Python, Ruby, Golang, PHP, and .NET, among other languages. You must recognize the role of developers in the computer world regarding cloud computing skills. Apps may be quickly created, deployed, and managed by developers. In cloud computing, this attribute is employed for scalability and strength.
3. Networking
Virtual networks and general network management operations are crucial for cloud architects to understand. Networking is linked to cloud computing because centralized computer resources are shared with clients over the cloud. It has created a trend of transferring more network management functions to the cloud, lowering the need for customer devices to control the network.
4. DevOps
DevOps combines development and operations into a single package, eliminating job dependencies and bridging the gap between the two. Because DevOps is a popular cloud engineering methodology, employers may find having a practical understanding of DevOps operations advantageous. AWS DevOps, in particular, is in great demand among cloud service providers.
5. Containerization
Containers are a logical packaging technique for applications because they allow them to be isolated from the environment in which they operate. This decoupling allows container-based software to be deployed easily and consistently regardless of whether the target environment is a private data center, public cloud, or even a developer's laptop. Understanding how popular containers like Kubernetes and Docker work will help your CV stand out in the cloud sector and the software domain.
6. Virtualization
Cloud architects should be able to deploy and manage application software on virtual machines. Virtualization is essential for businesses to gain access to scalable, fault-tolerant resources. A basic understanding of the same or services like EC2 and Lambda is helpful.
7. APIs and web services
Cloud architects should know open standards such as XML (Extensible Markup Language), SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol), WSDL (Web Services Description Language), and UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration), as well as how APIs are constructed.

How to get a remote Cloud Architect job?
Being a cloud architect requires several skills, and two major factors should be considered while developing a skill – support from seniors and effective practice. You can become the best architect by maximizing both of these. Cloud architects need to excel at their craft, and for that, they need to practice consistently and effectively. They need to work hard enough so that their skills can grow and evolve as users' needs are never constant. As a cloud architect, you must know how much to practice and ensure that there is an experienced person or a senior to help you.
