Job description

A U.S.-based company creating interactive retail displays that provide customers with profoundly memorable digital experiences is looking for an Android Engineer. The engineer will be working closely with the CTO to make architectural decisions regarding the scalability, performance, and security of components in the Android app. The company is digitizing the traditional experience through interactive kiosks, QR codes, and app clips to bring the familiarity of eCommerce to physical retail. This will be a full-time, long-term position requiring some overlap with the PST time zone. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work as a leader on the core Android application that runs on the company’s Kiosks
  • Collaborate with designers and product managers to create fluid experiences and features in the Android application
  • Solid understanding of the Android OS, including threads, app permissions, adb bridge, and other OS level details affecting performance
  • Make architectural decisions on scalability, performance, and security around components in the android application 
  • Design and implement integration layers with marketing and payment tools 
  • Build the core analytics and metrics infrastructure needed to maintain the app at scale and implement the alarms needed for a production scale system
  • Work with junior engineers on making daily technical decisions that affect the core infrastructure
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and assist the team in building and maintaining a roadmap

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 5-8+ years of relevant experience in Kotlin/Java 
  • Extensive experience in Android/Kotlin
  • Prolific experience in Firebase and AWS
  • Nice to have experience in GitHub
  • Demonstrable experience building reliable consumer-grade Android applications in Java/Kotlin
  • Solid understanding of fluid consumer interfaces 
  • Familiarity with best practices in the UI/UX industry 
  • Prior experience with the testing and monitoring stack for an android application
  • Experience in Firebase, AWS, and GitHub-based deployment preferred 
  • Knowledge of the Android OS platform, including low-level routines, is a plus
  • Fluent in verbal and written English
