Job description

A fast-growing VC-funded startup developing an online community where members can request and fund short-term assistance is looking for a Senior/Principal Cloud Engineer. The selected candidate will be tasked with resolving complex development-related issues. The US-based company is providing an alternative to short-term loans that are non-predatory, simple, and community-driven. So far, they have managed to successfully raise $12mn+ in funding. This position requires some overlap with the PST time zone. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyze the developer metrics and reduce performance bottlenecks in the development lifecycle, driving automation and continuous delivery
  • Monitor the company’s transformation from monolith to microservices infrastructure
  • Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure tools used by the engineering teams
  • Own all the stages of the development lifecycle, from conception to release to maintenance
  • Identify key opportunities for the company to leverage and accelerate the business
  • Evaluate and document web architecture, tools, and processes, strengthening the company’s efficacy

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 3-5+ years of relevant experience as a software engineer 
  • Extensive experience in AWS, Networking, Building environments, and Kubernetes
  • Passionate about solving hard problems and building an exceptional product
  • Solid understanding of Site Reliability Engineering, with the ability to guide others to a more observable system
  • Demonstrable experience building release engineering tools and practices to ensure low MTTR
  • Prior experience facilitating build vs buy conversations and getting the correct outcome for the business at the time of the decision
  • Comprehensive understanding of large-scale distributed systems, including multi-tier architectures, application security, monitoring, and storage systems
  • Demonstrable experience building on AWS products and infrastructure
  • Nice to have experience building a service mesh from the ground up, including service proxies
  • Experience in Golang code, testing, and production aspects is preferred
  • Kubernetes microservices and networking experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with AWS RDS, Aurora, and Postgres database administration is a bonus 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
