Job description

A fast-growing company that is on a mission to meet the global demand for high-resolution physical climate risk information, is looking for a Cloud Data/Back-End Developer. The developer will work with exceptional scientific and technical staff, with experience in environmental modeling, economic impacts, and machine learning. The company is leveraging the power of modern technologies to protect and develop assets and manage risk in operations. Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, optimize, and maintain data engineering pipelines that load very large geospatial datasets into Snowflake
  • Be an expert in everything Snowflake and build a cloud data warehouse for analytical and data science workloads
  • Identify, prioritize, and execute tasks in the software development life cycle
  • Analyze requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Develop high-quality software solutions that deliver the required product features
  • Self-learn to keep up with evolving best practices and emerging technologies
  • Apply appropriate tools to analyze, identify, and resolve technical problems
  • Develop and enforce coding guidelines and best practices
  • Write design documentation, user documentation and test information as required
  • Participate in team meetings: daily stand-ups, bi-weekly sprint reviews, design meetings
  • Work closely with product, science, and solutions teams
  • Proactively communicate status on all projects and releases
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 3+ years of relevant experience as a Cloud Data/Back-End Developer
  • 2+ years hands on working with Snowflake
  • 4+ years experience working with Python
  • Extensive experience across APIs and data engineering preferred
  • Practical experience working with petascale data in cloud environment
  • Proficiency in object-oriented design and programming
  • Experience using test-driven development in large codebases
  • Proficiency in client-server architectures, containers, and microservices
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes is desirable
  • In-depth knowledge and proficiency of cloud-based systems such as AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda)
  • Some experience with massively parallel processing frameworks such as Apache Spark is nice to have
  • Solid understanding and experience with geospatial data is a plus.
  • Prior front-end development experience with React and TypeScript is a plus, allowing end-to-end contributions
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
