Job description

An automated, AI-driven medication delivery platform reducing health plan premiums and accelerating clinical trials, is looking for a Senior Embedded Linux Firmware/Software Engineer (IMX8, Yocto). The engineer will contribute to scaling the project by getting up to speed with the platform, managing the user applications, and implementing various strategies or optimizations. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to join the small, talented team in making an impact and rise quickly through the ranks. 


Job Responsibilities:

  • Get up to speed with the platform, understand the Yocto build and toolchain and build system, kernel, device drives, etc.
  • Identify inefficiencies, errors, and organize/suggest optimization
  • Identify security pain points and develop an implementation strategy around making the device secure and robust upon distribution and outside threats
  • Strategize and implement over the air update strategy/plan using Mender
  • Execute on OTA updates and tests
  • Develop, manage and maintain middleware and user applications, usually based on C/C++
  • Write, manage, and maintain device drivers for the Linux kernel
  • Develop or customize board support packages (BSP) for our hardware to provide additional functionality, e.g. software updates, security, and optimization
  • Create and maintain embedded Linux distributions and land them on custom hardware
  • Create power-loss tolerance, fail-safe and secure field update mechanisms, real-time performance, secure boot, connectivity, and other solutions for appliance and open platform products
  • Own projects from block-diagram concepts throughout the entire product life cycle
  • Provide technical direction and leadership in a non-supervisory capacity for complex engineering projects

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • Prior experience working with Yocto
  • Proficient with OTA updates with Mender
  • Expert knowledge of embedded Linux configuration, development, board support packages, bootloaders, kernel, drivers, and application development in C/C++
  • Experience developing with GCC/GNU toolchains
  • Expert knowledge of compilers, linkers, debuggers, version control systems (Git/SVN)
  • Have strong systems and networking knowledge (systems architecture, memory hierarchy, storage subsystems, LANs, routing)
  • Proven track record of leveraging open source solutions to achieve commercial business success
  • Experienced with creating custom embedded Linux distributions using tools like Yocto
  • Familiarity with packaging software for distribution and deployment (dpkg, apt-get repositories)
  • Experience with graphical application frameworks such as Qt
  • Experience developing applications with high data throughput and low latency
