Job description

A US-based Ed-tech company with a worldwide impact and helping children build critical skills for school and life is looking for a Senior Software Engineer. The engineer will be in charge of the company's proprietary subscription-related Java microservices as well as the integration of larger e-commerce platforms. The company's fast-growing direct-to-consumer children's brand contributes to creating innovative stories and activities centered on geography, culture, science, and art. This role requires a significant overlap with the PST time zone. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Understand the big-picture business needs and figure out the best solutions to meet them
  • Influence and lead software engineers at the project level, mentor the team and foster a culture of continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with the platform team to design and build the best software solution to handle complex business problems
  • Design generalized solutions across domains, utilizing a consistent set of architectural components to ensure consistency
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to help set and document technical standards
  • Compose the software architecture and structure, taking into consideration reusability, the total cost of ownership, time-to-market, and high availability
  • Facilitate the analysis of complex technical issues to reduce technical debt and improve code quality

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 5+ years of relevant experience as a software engineer
  • Core expertise in building composable microservices using Spring Cloud Data Flow
  • Prior experience with data modeling and database design
  • Proficiency in test-driven development and unit testing frameworks
  • Good working experience with design, cross-functional stakeholders, and product teams to simplify complex processes for users
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with agile software development process and iterative DevOps model for continuous integration and deployment
  • Experience working with public cloud platforms like GCP or AWS 
  • In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes
  • Extensive experience working with Java, Spring framework and Hibernate, PHP is desirable
  • Experience working in a start-up or fast-paced, high-growth environments
